2k has announced that they will take the NBA game to the next level. The publishers have decided to boost the game by throwing enough money to release the game as an esport.

A statement made about the esport by VC president Greg Thomas reads:

“The NBA 2K development team has aspired to join the exciting world of eSports for years,”

NBA 2k16 will be the first part of the campaign and It will be called Roads of the Finals. The esport will start from February 15. Players from XBOX ONE and PS4 will be able to qualify for the tournament by playing Pro-am matches and have their chance at a huge 250,000 USD winning pool.

The top sixteen players of each console will play against each other in elimination rounds and the final contenders will play the final game in the actual NBA Finals in June of 2016.

(The Tournament is only available to players from North America and Canada.) Hope they add more regions soon.
